Research & Extension Division

Mandate

  • Formulate policies related to livestock research and extension;
  • Function as technical authority to steer livestock research and extension programs;
  • Coordinate, prioritize and set research agenda;
  • Mobilize resources and build capacity to strengthen livestock research and extension; and
  • Deliver research services with efficiency.

Functions of Research and Extension Division

  • ยทDevelop policies and strategic plans for livestock research and extension;
  • Prepare annual work plan and budget to meet relevant Key Result Areas;
  • Scrutinize all research proposal for clearances;
  • Organize national level coordination workshop, training, symposium and conferences related to livestock research;
  • Conduct research for strengthening government policy so as to improve system efficiency;
  • Prepare policy briefs and impact assessment reports related to research;
  • Oversee functioning of Commodity and Disciplinary Research Centres and affiliated farms;
  • Facilitate development of vital infrastructures and facilities needed for livestock research;
  • Mobilize resources for financing research and extension programs;
  • Promote collaboration with national and international research organizations;
  • Produce high quality and specialised inputs; and
  • Monitor and evaluate livestock research and extension programs.

Functions of Research Section

  • Assist
    the division on development of research policies, strategies and plans;
  • Prepare
    annual work plan and budget to meet the SKRAs;
  • Coordinate
    with Commodity and Disciplinary Research Centres and affiliated farms to issue technical
    clearances for research proposals;
  • Make
    technical analysis and encourage innovative research at Commodity and
    Disciplinary Research Centres and affiliated farms;
  • Coordinate
    to prepare project proposals to mobilize fund for livestock research;  
  • Coordinate
    national and international trainings, workshops, seminars, and symposiums;
  • Facilitate meetings
    to harmonize and standardize research agendas of assigned commodities;
  • Support to build networks and linkages with relevant national and
    international research
    institutions;
  • Develop and
    implement effective mechanism for monitoring and evaluation of research programs; and
  • Produce periodic reports, highlights and publish Bhutan Journal of Animal Science annually.

Functions of Extension Section

  • Assist
    the division on development of extension policies, strategies and plans;
  • Oversee dissemination
    of research technologies in close collaboration with Regional Livestock
    Development Centers;
  • Prepare annual work plan and budget to meet the SKRAs;
  • Coordinate
    to organize national and international workshops, trainings, seminars and
    symposiums;
  • Facilitate
    innovative research technology packaging for its efficient dissemination;
  • Monitor progress and produce periodic technical and financial reports, extension manuals and technology transfer guidelines;
  • Assist the
    division to build up networks and linkages with relevant institutions; and
  • Support and liaise with National Center for
    Animal Health to maintain e-library
    and scientific information repositories.
