26 July 2019: National Highland Research and Development Centre (NHRDC), Bumthang organised five days training on basic GIS/GPS training for the officials of NHRDC, National Research and Development Centre for Animal Nutrition (NRDCAN) and Brown Swiss Cattle Farm (BSCF) under the Department of Livestock (DoL), MoAF. The training was conducted from 22-26 July 2019 at NHRDC, Jakar, Bumthang. The main objective of the training was to provide basic hands-on-skills in using GPS (Global Positioning System) using smart phones and orient participants to mapping software such as QGIS (Quantum Geographical System application that supports viewing, editing and analysis of geospatial data).
Geographical Information System (GIS) plays an important role in every aspect of our life from basic application such as mapping the location of yak herd to complex analysis such as wildlife habitat modelling. GIS as a tool, enables integration of data and information from various sources.
Mr. Towchu Rabgay, Chief of Research and Extension Division under DoL formally opened the training and Mr. Kuenzang Dorji, Assistant Lecturer from Nature Study Center, Ugyen Wangchuk Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research facilitated the training.
