Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAOBT), Bhutan and The Department of Livestock (DoL) signs two Technical Cooperation Programs (TCP) project in the country.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAOBT), Bhutan and The Department of Livestock (DoL) signs two Technical Cooperation Programs (TCP) projects in the country over the next two years.

The first project (TCP/BHU/3901/C1) titled “Technical support for product diversifications of yak wool fiber to improve livestock income and livelihood of highland communities” seeks to improve livestock income and livelihoods for highland communities by establishing a Yak wool value chain and providing smallholder yak farmers with technical support to increase production and income.

The second TCP project (TCP/BHU/3903) titled Enhancing livestock production efficiency through digitisation and precision farming aims to improve farm registration and recording systems which in turn would help in planning, monitoring and better decision making for a staggered production, input supply and linking value chain actors in production, processing and marketing of livestock products.  This project is also expected to automate and help reduce drudgery in livestock farming and help engage women and youth groups in trout enterprise development.

An inception meeting on the two TCP Projects signed was held at the Department of Livestock, chaired by the Director, Dr. Tashi Yangzome Dorji on 9th March 2023. The meeting was attended by the Dr. Sonevilay Nampanya, Lead Technical Officer (LTO) from FAO RAP, Bangkok, Assistant Representative, FAO Country Office, Bhutan, officials from the Planning and Policy Division, MoAL, Program Directors and Farm Managers from various farms virtually and officials from the DoL.

Prior to the inception meeting, the LTO along with the team from FAO Country Office and officials from the Department of Livestock visited the project sites to get first hand information on the ground realities prior to the implementation of the projects.
