15th Jan, 2020: Coinciding with the National Highland Development Program (NHDP) coordination workshop in Gelephu, the National Highland Research and Development Centre (NHRDC) Bumthang in collaboration Research and Extension Division, Department of Livestock has launched a high-end traditional wooden case for the honey produced in Bhutan, with the objective to promote the highland bio-honey. His Excellency the Minister, Lyonpo Yeshi Penjor, Ministry of Agriculture and Forest released the package as one of the innovative technology in marketing the bio-honey as one of the niche natural product of Bhutan. The box is designed to hold round shape 500 gram glass jar but its size can be customized to the size of the jar.
Highland honey is a product from pristine highland environment endowed with abundance of medicinal herbs beneficial for human health. Honey extracted from these areas is highly preferred farm produce in the Bhutanese market particularly by the high-end customers and tourists visiting the country.
Through release of this honey container packaging box, it is expected that many people will come to know about Bhutanese highland honey which will help to take beekeeping in highland areas to the greater height for the furtherance of highlanders.
